Fully Automatic Column Palletizer for Carton Handling
Core Working Principle
Z-axis (Vertical Lifting): The gripper moves up and down along the central column, determining the palletizing height.
X/Y-axis (Horizontal Rotation and Extension): The horizontal arm rotates left and right (typically 270°~360°) and extends and retracts forward and backward, achieving coverage from picking up materials from the conveyor belt to placing them onto the pallet.
R-axis (End Rotation): The end of the gripper can rotate, ensuring that cartons are accurately placed according to a preset "brick-and-mortar" or "crisscross" pattern.
Key Advantages of Carton Handling
Dual-Station Cycle: The palletizer can simultaneously serve two pallet positions (left and right). When one side is full, the robot automatically switches to the other, enabling 24/7 production.
Low Maintenance Costs: The structure is simpler than multi-joint robots, with fewer drive joints. Mainstream models in 2026 often use "lifetime maintenance-free" bearings.
Plagging Accuracy: Servo motor control ensures a repeatability accuracy of ±0.5mm, guaranteeing neat carton stacking and preventing collapse during forklift transport.
"Intelligent" Features in 2026
Visual Guidance and Adaptation (AI Vision): Even if the carton's position on the conveyor belt is not fixed or tilted, the 3D vision camera can capture its position in real time and correct the gripping action.
No-Code Programming: Operators simply input the carton dimensions (length, width, height) through a graphical interface on a tablet, and the system automatically generates the optimal stacking algorithm.
Safety LiDAR Scanner: Eliminating bulky metal barriers. When personnel approach, the machine automatically slows down and enters a "safe collaboration mode," resuming high-speed operation after personnel leave.
Energy Feedback System: When lowering a load, the machine converts kinetic energy into electrical energy and feeds it back to the grid, reducing energy consumption by approximately 30% compared to traditional models.
Gripper (End Effector) Selection
Column palletizers are equipped with specific grippers for different types of cartons:
Vacuum Suction Cup: The most common. Multiple suction cups grip the top of the carton without damaging it, suitable for most flat cartons.
Side-grip/clamp type: Suitable for heavier cartons, cartons with uneven tops, or cartons made from recycled materials, providing a more stable mechanical locking.
Bottom-support type: Suitable for extra-heavy cartons (e.g., over 30kg) or cartons with easily cracked bottoms, lifting them from below.
Performance Reference Specifications
Palletizing speed: 300 - 600 cartons/hour (single carton gripping); up to 800+ cartons/hour with multi-carton gripping.
Maximum load: Typically between 20kg - 100kg.
Palletizing height: Standard model up to 1.8m - 2.4m.
